At Epic, our Vision is to be the strongest fencing community of athletes, referees, coaches, and volunteers in Canada.
Together, we can make sure Epic Fencing continues to grow, compete, and succeed, while keeping our strong sense of community at the heart of everything we do.
Volunteering and Supporting Epic Fencing
Epic Fencing is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit club, and our continued success depends on the time, energy, and commitment of our community of fencers and fencing families. From hosting tournaments to running fundraising events, volunteers make it all possible.
To support this club – and in line with many other sports organizations – we are introducing a Volunteer Bond program. This ensures that everyone shares in the work that keeps our club thriving.
Here’s how it works:
- At the start of a fencer’s membership, each fencing family is asked to volunteer 10 hours per season (September to end of June)
- A bond of $400 will be added to the family account. The volunteer bond will not be charged unless the 10 hours have not been completed by the end of the season
- Notes:
- This applies to all members who participate in group classes, this does not apply to Open Bouting Members
- Intro fencers and New members are given a 2-month buffer period before they are asked to commit to the volunteer bond.
- However Intro/New Member families can start to accrue volunteer hours as soon as they join the club
- Upon completion of 10h of volunteering, the cheque will be destroyed
- Notes:
- 6 of the volunteer hours must be completed during an Epic tournament or the casino
- The Casino occured September 16-17th, thank you to those who donated their time!
- Tournaments that count include: Fence-O-Mania (Sept 13-14th), Epic Fall Classic (Oct 11-12th), Alberta Winter Games Qualifier (Oct 26th) Canada Cup in Calgary (February 20-22nd), Leslie Palmai Cup (March 21-22), and Gladiators Cup (June 6-7 or 13-14)
- Clean up at tournaments counts for 1.5X value
